AJ Aircraft

GP Engines
When I was in college and couldn’t afford the fancy shiny expensive competitior for all of my airframes was turned on to this new start up out of Tiawan GP Engines. My mentor and best friend Joe Lewis (AviatorPlusRC) helped me every step of the way keeping me in the air when the manufacture was still hitting some bumps in the road to get their engines up to top performance. Years later and I argue they have the best performing engines and make the absolute most power to weight.

First Person View (FPV) Quadcopters
Flying in First Person
The dream of being able to fly where ever your heart desires has the ability to come true with FPV quadcopters. It is simply amazing the capabilities these machines have to make a dream a reality. Seeing yourself in third person is a unique but mind-bending experience. For me it feels like I detach from reality and go dance around trees in the back yard, surfing down a mountain in the middle of no where or chasing RC airplanes getting air-to-air footage.
The dream of flight is now a reality.
Learning and Growing
The amount of knowledge about electronics I have acquired since I started building and flying FPV quadcopters in 2015 is impressive. Whether its a wrong COM port on the computer, to a USB cable that doesn’t have a data pin that I cant see, a gps that isn’t properly setup in the flight controller configurator, a new firmware update that is unstable, or a micro solder ball I didn’t catch slightly bridging a serial port on the flight controller. It all has taught me to do deep-dives into problems I am having and trouble shoot issues that are occurring with the a complete understanding of the whole system.

Racing is more than just placing on the podium… Its a journey, learning, growing, exploring new paths, stepping out of your comfort zone, late nights setting up your cars between race days, but most importantly having fun and learning….
Tuning and Racing Dynamics
A good driving vehicle doesn’t just happen accidentally. There are so many factors that go into getting your car to drive right whether its a radio controlled 1/10 scale buggy or testing vehicles at your job on Monday.
RC Buggy racing has taught me a lot about vehicle dynamics with some very straight forward ways to tackle problems on the track. These models are highly engineered to allow for just about full tunability of every aspect from varying degree caster blocks, various differential types and slipper clutches, ride heights & droop, to different body types, to using Liquid Wrench on the tires to soften up the rubber to get more traction on loose clay tracks. There are endless methods of tuning that all affect the way the vehicle drives, performs and gives you the confidence to focus on racing and not the undesired tendencies the car may have.
3D Printing
The ability 3D printing has to offer to the average consumer is endless. Having machines that give you the ability to identify a problem, brainstorm ideas, model them up in SolidWorks then use the STL Slicing software to make and idea into a tangible idea is an amazing feeling. Choosing the proper material for the application and tuning the machine to accept various materials that all require fine adjustments make the process that much more of a exciting challenge.
Vinyl Cutting
If I knew how frequently I would have needed a vinyl cutter to solve small problems that I never knew I even had prior to ownership, I would have bought one years in advance.
Like any machine it requires fine adjustments and fineness to not cut too deep, adjusting the manually rollers that keep the vinyl tracking straight while cutting, to editing the picture files in the software to get accurate and reliable results. The abilities of these types of machines are impressive and has allowed me to make everything from simply stickers for friends to custom apparel for personal use and small business start-ups.
